We design smart, sophisticated passive preamplifiers using modern technology — microprocessors, FET switches, autoformers and remote control — while keeping affordability firmly in mind.
Unlike others, we’re not here to create just another flashy product for audiophiles. Our focus is on delivering a genuinely better listening experience through engineering, not marketing.

“In the 80s and 90s I worked with COCOM-listed DSP and designed high-tech industrial and military electronics — including the first digital FFT analyser in Eastern Europe. For me it was very strange to see the lack of innovation in quite expensive audio gear.
I thought that after 25 years in the IT industry, then selling online health and wellness products as a natural therapist, I ought to re-embrace my engineering self and make something smarter with these fancy transformers.
I didn’t think that in terms of work hours and time, this would become my life’s biggest investment. But it’s a very interesting and exciting experience to be working on fulfilling a personal childhood vision.”
The journey
1980s – 1990s
Electronics engineer, Hungary
Designed high-tech industrial and military electronics. Built the first digital FFT analyser in Eastern Europe. Worked with COCOM-listed DSP.
1990s – 2000s
25 years in IT
Left engineering for the IT industry, then explored natural therapies, meditation and wellness.
2012
Moved to Manchester, UK
Pal and Agnes relocated to the UK, setting the stage for a return to engineering.
2016
Founded Life-Changer Audio UK
First icOn preamplifier launched. The 6moons Blue Moon award follows shortly after.
2023 – 2024
icOn 5 — Best Hi-Fi of 2024
Seven years of refinement culminate in the icOn 5. Awarded Best Hi-Fi of 2024 by The Ear and Editor's Choice.
2025
Paul Grand Audio — new chapter
Rebranded as Paul Grand Audio. The icOn Zen launches, bringing the passive preamp experience to a wider audience.

Agnes Kocsis
Design, Administration & Customer Support
Agnes is the creative force behind the visual identity of Paul Grand Audio. She designs the website, packaging and user manuals — ensuring every touchpoint feels as considered as the product itself.
Customers regularly comment on the quality of the packaging — that moment of unboxing a handbuilt product that looks and feels as premium as it sounds. That’s Agnes’s work.
She also handles administration and assists with customer support, while Pal remains the primary point of contact for all technical and product enquiries. Between them they run the entire operation from their workshop in Manchester.

Formerly Life-Changer Audio UK
Paul Grand Audio is the new trading name for the business previously known as Life-Changer Audio UK. The people, the workshop, the philosophy and the products are exactly the same.
The name change reflects a natural evolution — putting the designer’s identity at the centre of the brand, as it has always been in practice. Every icOn preamplifier is still designed and handbuilt by Pal Nagy in Manchester, UK.
